Your thoughts on work invading the personal life sphere are very articulate and thoughtful, and at times I completely agree that the ubiquitousness of technology has been hard on keeping these two worlds separate. My mom is the breadwinner of the family and often works longer than the standard 9-to-5 work day. Combine this with traveling, and you have a woman who has her Blackberry in one hand, a Bluetooth earpiece in her ear, and my brother’s most recent report card in her other hand. Balancing personal life and work is much much harder now than it used to be. At the same time, I hesitate to say technology as a whole has negatively impacted the way we work, since it’s a pretty large blanket statement that definitely does not apply in other ways outside of the way that work and personal life interact.
